Made by Human - The New Luxury
While AI is my area of expertise and I wholeheartedly embrace technological advancements, let's discuss something even more futuristic than AI - let’s discuss Made by Human. For many, futurism equates to technology and innovations. For me, it also encompasses the evolution of who we are and who we are becoming.
Fast forward a decade, or maybe even less than that, when AI-driven tools will become commonplace in our everyday routines, the notion of Made by Human will be born and dominate as the ultimate luxury.
In my view, there is an immense opportunity for us amidst all these technological advancements - and that is the opportunity to finally become that which we are. This is forcing us to finally draw the boundaries between what defines a human being and what is specific to robots. But for that, we have some work to do and the work is due. Its deadline has occurred together with the rise of AI advancements which lead to the question so many of us are already asking: "Will AI replace us?”
This question holds a golden answer to it. An opportunity to evolve into something we may have never had time to dream of. This question should not scare us but inspire us.
As such, it is crucial to get closer to our human nature while embracing innovation. We must take advantage of all the technological advancements.
We must take advantage of the ease they bring into our lives.
We must take advantage of the time and opportunities they provide for us to breathe. We must take advantage of the chance to explore aspects of ourselves that routine activities have previously overshadowed.
We must take advantage and become that which we are.
This is our moment to become that which we are.
AI has already made significant contributions across various fields. However, it cannot replicate the genuine human touch.
For example, numerous studies in clinical research showed that patients who were cared for by people showing genuine empathy and compassion were most likely to recover faster - such support positively impacted their recovery in various medical conditions. As such, the AI-powered robots will be able to help in surgeries, treatment prescriptions, etc., but ultimately it is the human interaction that does the magic. Nothing cheers up more a sick person than to feel the touch of another human being.
In education, AI enhances personalized learning and offers data-driven insights for teaching improvement. Yet, the irreplaceable role of a dedicated teacher who inspires, mentors, and connects with students on a personal level leads to the greatest creativity, the highest critical thinking, and the deepest emotional growth - all in ways that AI cannot and will never be able to replicate.
In the arts, AI can create music, art, and literature. However, the unique creative drive of human artists to innovate and convey deep emotions remains beyond AI's reach. Human art resonates personally, it brings certain emotions and connections which absent in machine-generated art.
In customer service, AI chatbots can handle routine inquiries efficiently. However, when dealing with complex issues or providing personalized service, the empathy and understanding shown by a human make all the difference. Customers value the ability to speak with someone who can relate to their experiences and emotions.
The examples can go on and on as in numerous fields, it is the human touch that makes the final difference. This realization calls us to action: we must embrace and cultivate our unique human qualities, becoming who we truly are. We can't hide anymore behind the mundane tasks, activities, excel tables, and everything else that occupied our precious time so far. AI will do all that for us. We'll finally need to do that which reveals and relates to our unique human qualities.
The fear. Embracing AI doesn’t come easy to some of us and it’s understandable. We tend to be afraid of what we don’t know yet or have no full control over.
However, looking back in time, if there’s one thing that history has taught us in terms of innovation, then that is that there’s no way around innovation. We never had a way around it - the only available way we ever had was through it. The same applies to AI. It is already present in our lives and the only available way is to embrace it - responsibly, as a tool for both innovation and compliance.
Think about electricity for a moment. When electricity had just been invented we were afraid of it and we had good reasons to be so as it could damage our environment, it did represent a direct threat to our lives if mishandled. However, here we are today, in this present world, where electricity is deeply integrated into almost everything we do.
Reflecting on AI, it's evident that nearly every aspect of our efforts will experience a significant shift. Actually, the shift is already here and to me, this looks like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a moment to innovate and impact. It's becoming evident that our professional endeavors are centered on effecting change and for that we need to change as well.
Our humanity becomes our greatest asset. Empathy, creativity, and connection - these traits will set us apart and make us indispensable. By embracing AI as a tool, we can free ourselves from the mundane and focus on what truly matters - being human.
The choice is ours. We can cling to the past or step boldly into the unknown, secure in the knowledge that our humanity is our greatest strength. Let us rise to the challenge and become the best versions of ourselves. For, in the end, that is the only luxury that truly matters.
